The Managing Director Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, Misbahuddin Farid, on Tuesday requested the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Provincial Election Commissioner and other high-profile officers to exempt KW&SB staff from election duty so that they could perform their regular duties of ensuring the people water supply and sanitation facilities.
In a letter sent to these officials, Misbahuddin Farid stated that KW&SB staff, especially technical and engineering personnel, played a vital role in this regard. Furthermore, the board's revenue staff ensured the smooth running of its routine operations, besides working toward the recovery of outstanding dues from defaulters.
"Therefore, deployment of KW&SB staff on election duty can disrupt the system. KW&SB's infrastructure needs 24/7 attendance and KW&SB staff is working around the clock to ensure supply as per schedule." Misbahuddin Farid expressed the hope that the CEC would take a decision in the larger public interest by exempting KW&SB's revenue, water supply and sewerage staff and other employees from election duty.
