The deadline set by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for clearance of dues by defaulters of electricity bills is expiring today (Friday) conveyed to all through public notices. Chairman NAB has issued directives on Thursday to all the regional HQs of NAB to pursue cases and initiating criminal proceedings against defaulters who have not cleared their dues within the deadline.
NAB has, so far, recovered Rs 350 million and expects to recover remaining dues shortly. NAB is issuing this final warning: non-payment of electricity bills is a crime and the defaulters would be dealt with in accordance with the law. Non-payment of electricity bill adversely affects the well-being of the consumers/general public who are paying their bills in time, damages the national economy and burdens the public exchequer.
Earlier, a public notice to this effect was issued through newspapers advertisements and Public Service Message by the electronic media. Defaulters were asked to pay their dues by April 04, 2013, and obtain clearance from NAB after production of challan along with latest paid bills. Defaulters were also warned that criminal proceedings will be initiated against defaulters leading to arrest and prosecution who fail to clear their dues by April 19, 2013.-PR
