Misbah-ul-Haq's Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd (SNGPL) ended the 2012-13 domestic season on a high note when they completed the double, beating WAPDA by 32 runs in the final of President's Cup One-Day National Cricket Tournament at National Stadium on Friday.
Sui Northern sent to bat first, raised 283 for the loss of eight wickets in 50 overs thanks to a flying opening stand of 125-run between Mohammad Hafeez and Taufiq Umer. WAPDA recovered partially after losing both their inform openers Riffatullah Mohmand and Hafiz Saad Nasim early on and were restricted to 251-9 in 50 overs.
Test discard Ayub Doggar hit a defiant 66 off 60 balls studded with nine fours and talent Sohaib Maqsood hit an enterprising 57 in 71 balls spiced with half a dozen boundaries and brace of sixes. Fiery pacer Asad Ali was hero in his team's victory - snapping up four wickets for 37 runs in ten overs including the prized scalp of Riffat and Hafiz Saad by shattering their stumps in his opening spell.
Director General PCB Javed Miandad presented the winning trophy to SNGPL Captain Misbah-ul-Haq with cash prize of Rs 250,000 while WAPDA skipper Rana Naveed got runners-up trophy and Rs 125,000 purse. Pakistan team Manager Naveed Akram Cheema KCCA President Syed Sirajul Islam Bukhari were also present on the occasion. Earlier Hafeez and Taufiq' century opening stand was cornerstone of SNGPL.
Hafeez struck seven fours in his 58 off 64- ball before being hold out to Ayub Doggar in the covers off Saad Nasim. Test left handed Taufiq Umer went seven over later for 79 and his 78-ball knock was studded eight strikes to the boundary. Azhar Ali contributed a subdued 33 in 51 balls with a solitary four.
