Taiwan stocks rose 1.8 percent in their biggest one-day percentage gain in more than six months on Friday, lifted by TSMC after the world's top contract chip maker posted a better-than-expected quarterly profit and issued an upbeat outlook. The main TAIEX index ended 1.8 percent higher at 7,930.80 points, beating most regional bourses. TSMC was 7-percent limit up, boosting the electronics sub-index by 2.4 percent. Banking shares also jumped 1.8 percent.
The Taiwan dollar rose T$0.092 to stand at T$29.818 to the US dollar.
