The Karachi Port handled 96,179 tonnes of cargo comprising 58,777 tonnes of import cargo and 37,402 tonnes of export cargo including 2,887 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 58,777 tonnes comprised 10,875 tonnes of containerised cargo; 14,624 tonnes of general cargo; 28,000 tonnes of coal and 5,278 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 37,402 tonnes comprised 17,803 tonnes of containerised cargo; 329 tonnes of general cargo and 12,820 tonnes of bulk cargo: 1,191 tonnes of cement and 9,012 tonnes of loose bulk cement; 1,378 tonnes of rice; 1,239 tonnes of sugar and 6,450 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 2,887 containers comprising 1,048 containers import and 1,839 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.
The brakeup of imported containers shows 186 of 20's and 320 of 40's loaded while 118 of 20's and 52 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 391 of 20's and 337 of 40's loaded containers while 52 of 20's and 361 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There are nine ships namely Callao Bridge, Ever Result, Wave, APL Brisbane, UASC Samarra, Han He, King Bright, Brighoil Legend and GMT Phoenix with five container ships, two general cargo ships, one oil tanker and one bulk cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There are five vessels viz APL Guangzhou, Cape Verde, Kota Anggerik, Maresk Kiera and Sea Maple with three container ships, one oil tanker and one general cargo ship respectively are currently at the berths. One ship namely Bulk Arrow with cement carrier sailed out to sea on Friday, while three ships namely Cape Verde, Sea Maple and Nadeem with one container ship, one general cargo ship and one cement carrier are expected to sail on Saturday.
There are five vessels viz YM West, Scirocco, Fen, Freja Hafnia and MT Quetta with one container ship, one molasses ship, one chemical carrier, one naphtha tanker and one crude oil tanker respectively due to arrive on Friday, while four vessels viz Santa Rosa, Seattle Bridge, Amanda and Kalamas with three container ships and one crude oil tanker respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.
