Civic engagement activities: UVAS vice chancellor urges involvement of teachers, students

University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore Vice Chancellor Professor Talat Naseer Pasha has urged the need for involving students and faculty members in civic engagement activities for the welfare of local communities and inculcating civic sense in students.
He said this in a meeting with Executive Director Innovation in Civic Participation USA, Madam Susan Stroud and Project Manager USA-Pakistan Higher Education Initiative on Civic Engagement, Tehreem Saifey here on Saturday. Senior faculty members and representatives of student clubs/organisations of the UVAS were also present. Dr Pasha said that the UVAS was already executing various community welfare projects to facilitate local people on university campus as well as on their doorsteps.
He said that the university had established community farms on its Ravi Campus Pattoki by providing free land and advisory services to the local farmers. He said that the university was also executing a community welfare programmes in five districts of Punjab and two districts of the Sindh province under an Australian funded Agriculture Sector Linkages Programme. The Vice Chancellor also supported the idea that civic engagement activities should be part of curriculum of various university academic programmes.
