MCCI begins work towards budget proposals

A Taxation sub-committee of Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) started work on finalising the proposals for budget 2013-14. Its maiden meeting was held under the chairmanship of Mian Iqbal Hassan and it was attended by Muhammad Younas Ghazi, Syed Ijaz Shah, Anwar Saleem Keen, Sheikh Abdul Sattar, MajTariq Khan (Retd) and Secretary-General Khurram Javed.
The committee discussed the issues of taxation relating to Sales, Income, and withholding. It demanded for ending the power crisis by employing the alternate means so that manufacturing sector could heave a sigh of relief and it could meet the demand of the foreign buyers on time.
It said that industrial production had decreased to the lowest ebb and cost of production had increased due to non-availability of gas and power. Our products cannot compete with China, India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Taiwan and other countries in world market because of highest cost of production. It demanded for rescinding all the SROs relating to General Sales Tax issued after December 31st, 2012. It suggested simplify the procedure of amendment in the sales tax registration form.
Mian Iqbal Hassan stressed the need for discouraging the import of such products which are being manufactured in Pakistan and encourage the local industry so that job opportunities could be enhanced and revenue could also be increased. The next sessions of the committee would be held in due course of time.
