The 93rd session of Senate will be held on May 2 where issues relating to deteriorating law and order situation, load shedding and forthcoming general elections are likely to be discussed. The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) would move a resolution against the killing of its leaders and workers in Karachi and Hyderabad.
According to sources, the Upper House of Parliament would also discuss the current political situation in the country after the arrest of former President General Pervez Musharraf (Retd) and terrorists' attacks on leaders of various political parties especially Awami National Party (ANP), MQM and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) during election campaign. Law and order situation especially in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Karachi would also be discussed.
Chairman Senate Nayyar Hussain Bokhari has summoned the Senate's session on May 2 after requisition moved by the members of Upper House of the Parliament. The sources said that the members would also discuss the security problems faced by the candidates of various political parties particularly PPP, ANP and MQM during election campaign.
Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan of MQM told Business Recorder that the MQM would move a resolution in the Upper House against the killing of MQM leaders and workers in Karachi, urging the House to take notice of the recent assassination of the party workers. He said that the party would take part in the coming general elections by all means.
He said that the all political forces have concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation in the country ahead of the general elections. About Musharraf's case, he said that everyone was bound to comply with the court orders but Musharraf should be treated in well manner until the court announced him guilty.
President's Spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar has also written a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) to take note of the vilification campaign against President Asif Ali Zardari. Senator Farhatullah Babar while talking to Business Recorder said that his party would raise the issue of current law and order situation in the country. He said that the issue of former President Pervez Musharraf would also be discussed in the House. To a question, he said that the PPP was facing security threats and it will avoid public meetings. However, he said that PPP Chairman Bilal Bhutto Zardari would also address the people through a video link.
Senator Abdul Nabi Bangash of the ANP said that the ANP might move a resolution in the House against the killing of its leaders and workers during elections campaign. He categorically stated that the ANP would also support a resolution which would be moved by any political party in the house, seeking immediate action against the elements responsible for the killing of political workers and leaders across the country.
He said that the ANP had neither track record of shouldering undemocratic forces nor it has any intension in future. He said that the ANP would also support any resolution moved in the house, seeking trial of former president under Article 6 of the constitution. The ANP would resist with tooth and nail any voice raised in the House in the favour of Musharraf.
