Abbas wins 'Royal Palm Monthly Medal Golf Event'

29 Apr, 2013

Abbas Ali Khan won the 'Royal Palm Monthly Medal Golf Event' contested over 18 holes on stroke play basis here today. The event attracted 76 entries and what added colour and competitiveness to the tournament was the participation of a large number of single handicappers like Sardar Murad, Jameel Khalid, Asad Amin, Sharjeel Awan, Nasir Mehmood and Raza Ali Khan, to name but a few.
When the contestants assembled at the 18 tees in groups of three and four they all looked eager and hopeful to win. However, as the game progressed, only the gallant ones who demonstrated consistent application of golfing skills emerged as the top ones. As for the vulnerable ones, they faded out; as the competition progressed and though they were excellent in patches, double bogies here and there left their score cards tarnished enough to fetch them in positions other than the winning ones.
Those who put up some inspirational fighting qualities were Abbas Ali Khan and Mohsen Zafar in the gross section of handicap category 0 to 12. Abbas Ali Khan won the winning trophy with a gross score of 76 elbowing out Mohsen Zafar. He and Mohsen had a similar score of 76, but Abbas had a better score on the back nine.
Winners of the various allied events were: Handicap category 13-18; Tariq Mushtaq (1st gross); Farid Malik (2nd gross); Munzir Bokhari (1st net); Asadullah Khan (2nd net); Handicap Category 0-12; Dr Nasrullah (1st net); Nasir Mehmood (2nd net); Abbas Ali Khan (1st gross); Mohsen Zafar (2nd gross).
At the conclusion of the tournament, Lieutenant General (Retd) M.Tariq, Captain Golf of Royal Palm distributed prizes to the winners.
