Ship lineup to carry Brazilian sugar edges up

02 May, 2013

Ships arriving and waiting to load Brazilian sugar from the 2013/14 crop that started crushing in the past weeks has increased to 30 vessels from 28 a week ago, shipping agents Williams Servicos Maritimos Ltda said on Tuesday. The flow of raw sugar due to leave Brazilian ports over the next week or two has edged up to 795,418 tonnes from the 725,087 tonnes almost a week ago.
The outflow of 150 ICUMSA crystal sugar will drop however to 101,158 tonnes from 108,500 tonnes over the same period, Williams said. Brazil is the largest producer of sugar and controls half the world's exports in the commodity. The country's centre-south mills are in the early stages of harvesting a record 589.6-million-tonne cane crop, 11 percent bigger than last year that should result in record sugar output of 35.5 million tonnes.
