Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain has alleged that the leaders supporting terrorism want to impose their own interpretation of Shariah in the country in order to become Amirul Momineen (leader of faithful). He said this while addressing members of Elders' Wing of MQM in Lal Qila Ground, Azizabad on Thursday.
In the coming elections, Altaf Hussain said, the battle would be between the liberal and progressive political parties and those parties supporting religious extremism. He asserted that the descendent of the founders of Pakistan need not to obtain any certificate of patriotism from those who were working against Pakistan. Altaf Hussain categorically denied existence of any militant wing in the MQM. "A leader has said today in Karachi that he would end militant wings of political parties in Karachi after coming into power. If the militant wings are in Karachi, why lethal bullets of Kalashnikovs are fired in the Punjab?"
He said that the day the MQM will come into power, it would take-over palaces in Raiwind and convert them into schools, colleges and health centres. He said that MQM was the only political party in the country that was working for empowerment of poor and middle-class segments of the society.
He said that as the MQM was once again passing through difficult times, and hence the elders would have to step forward once again. "Everyone knows about the elements behind ongoing bomb attacks and slaying of personnel of armed forces and the parties that support these terrorists. The leaders condoning the terrorism of these elements never uttered a word that they would wipe out the terrorists behind bomb attacks on mosques, Imam Bargahs, shrines, schools, and slaying of innocent people and personnel of armed forces."
Altaf said that the election campaign was being run in Punjab only and parties in the remaining three provinces were not being allowed to run their campaign freely. Altaf Hussain hailed the statement of General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani once again and said that the MQM was with the armed forces against the terrorists carrying out bomb attacks. Deputy Convenor of MQM Dr Farooq Sattar and other also spoke.
