National Highway and Motorway Police (NH&MP) on Wednesday recovered a former army officer who was kidnapped from Pindi Bhatian NH&MP's spokesperson Javed Chaudhry said that Brigadier Tariq Azaz (Retd) was kidnapped from Pindi Bhatian. The Motorway Police was informed by its fine collection unit that five armed men, driving a black car, had kidnapped a person after intercepting his vehicle.
On receiving this information, the police alerted all its patrolling vehicles, however the culprits taking advantage of darkness managed to escape. Later, NH&MP officer SSP Athar Waheed constituted a team comprising DSP Babar Mehmood, Senior Patrolling Officer Zeeshan Khalid, Patrolling Officer Muhammad Nawaz, Patrolling Officer Rana Arif, Patrolling Officer Khalid Amir and Assistant Patrolling Officer Imran Nasim. The team blocked the motorway and started checking different vehicles. The police finally located a black Honda City car with a fake number plate. The NH&MP officers signalled it to stop but the culprits resorted to firing, forcing the police to retaliate.
Javed said that NH&MP commando squad also reached the spot to help the officers and they succeed in intercepting the car near Khanka Dogran canal. The culprits taking advantage of darkness managed to run away leaving the vehicle behind. The police recovered Brigadier Tariq Azaz from the car, who was lying in a state of unconsciousness. Meanwhile, Inspector General (IG) NH&MP Zafar Abbas Lak appreciated the performance of police and announced cash rewards and commendation certificates for each officer who took part in the operation.
