Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has lodged a complaint with Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) about the conduct of Punjab Additional Chief Secretary Rao Iftikhar Ahmed during the run-up to general elections. In a letter to ECP, PML-N leader Senator Ishaq Dar said that it has been reported in the media that Rao Iftikhar has tasked all divisional commissioners to come up with projected results in their area of jurisdiction.
It is alleged in the news item that Rao is transgressing his mandate by engaging in activities which may compromise the transparency/ governance during elections. The message has been delivered telephonically and also via text messaging. The PML-N Senator said that this communication has created confusion and perception in the ranks of civil servants that caretaker regime may be planning pre-fixed results. "Subject to the accuracy of the said news item, we strongly condemn this act of the said officer and request the commission to take immediate action by withdrawing his service from Punjab.
