An increase in turn out witnessed during the elections is mainly due to awareness created by the media regarding political issues among the public. Professor Dr Umbreen Javaid chairperson department of political science, University of Punjab said here on Sunday. "These elections witness an unprecedented increase in voter turnout, credit goes to the media specially the electronic media for keeping people update on every development on all political issues", she said.
The political Science department of the university also initiated an "election awareness campaign" in which unanimous banners carrying messages regarding significance of voting and votes were displayed", she said.
The professor also appreciated the Election Commission of Pakistan for holding elections in a free, fair and impartial manner to provide a truly elected democratic dispensation.
"The country is facing multiple challenges on different fronts which can not be dealt without political stability," she added. Democracy and fair elections were the only way to get political stability, further4 she added.
