the Lahore High Court Green Bench here Friday directed ministry of climate change to submit details of the licences issued during the last five years for the import of animals. The bench also issued notices to PML-N through its secretary general and summoned Director General of Punjab Wildlife Department for June 21.
An actor and social worker Faryal Gohar had filed the petition against the exhibition of wild animals by the political party during the campaign for the 2013 general elections and the failure of authorities concerned to check the violation of the laws. Earlier the petitioner's counsel argued that the government was bound under "Pakistan Trade Control of Wild Fauna and Flora Act 2012" to ensure that no import permit was granted in regards to the wild animals without satisfaction that they will be suitably housed and taken care within the country. He said the due diligence and proper compliance of mandatory legal provisions were not being carried out in granting import permits.
