Recently at an event held in Beijing, Intel unveiled its new eighth-generation Core i9 chip, which it calls as its highest-performance laptop processor till now.
As Mashable explains, the chip, Intel Core i9-8950HK, comes in with amazing new features, which in layman terms is drastically faster, 41% improved gaming and 59% faster 4K video editing capabilities. The company even asserts that the chip will show an overall 29% performance increase as compared to the previous processors. With Intel’s new Optane tech, the chip will increase the memory and storage performance of the laptop.

Speaking technically, the chip includes six cores and 12 threads, marking it as the company’s first hexa-core CPU for laptops. Being clocked at 2.9GHz but can be overclocked. The chip is also capable of turbo frequencies, speeding up to 4.8GHz and ensuring massively improved performance. The 12MP cache and the support for DDR4-2666 RAM will help speed up things as well.
According to The Inquirer, apart from the Core i9, Intel also launched new 8th-gen Core i7 and i5 processors based on the company’s new Coffee Lake platform. The new i7 chips will be integrated with six cores and 9MB cache whereas, the i5 will feature four cores and 8MB cache.
