JI seeks local bodies' polls within three months

23 May, 2013

The central political committee of the Jamaat-i-Islami has called upon the newly elected governments to ensure local bodies elections within next three months for the expeditious solution of local issues.
The meeting of the committee was held on Tuesday with the JI Secretary General, Liaquat Baloch in the chair. Other party leaders including JI Naib Ameer, Sirajul Haq, Dr Farid Ahmed Piracha, Professor Ibrahim khan, Dr Merajul Had Siddiqui, Abdul Mateen Akhundzada and Mian Muhammad Aslam were also present. The committee was of the view that there had been no election in Karachi where the entire electoral process was hijacked. It claimed that an ethnic organisation took possession of polling stations and filled the ballot boxes after stamping the ballot papers on their own.
The committee told the political parties securing the mandate that it was their testing time and their performance would be judged on the basis of their promises and manifestoes. Addressing the meeting, Liaquat Baloch said that ideological politics never died, and ups and downs of the situation did not matter much for them.
