KFHA sets deadline asking fishing vessels to return ashore

Karachi Fish Harbour Authority (KFHA) has set a deadline of May 28, asking all vessels to return ashore and comply with the annual fishing ban. The ban will start from June 1 and last till July 31 and the new fishing season will begin from August 1 this year, according the KFHA notification.
In line with the section 25 of the Sindh Fisheries Ordinance 1980, the KFHA will implement the annual ban to bar the fishermen from hunting of a number of shrimps and fish species, officials told Business Recorder. "Shrimp species are including Kalari, Jaira and Kiddi and freshwater fish species are: Rahu, Mori and Thaila whose hunting will be banned from June 1 till July 31, 2013 in the province sea and freshwater," they said.
The KFHA will not allow landing of fish and shrimp during the ban period at Karachi Fish Harbour, they said and warned that the violators will be punished with confiscating of their all catch according to the relevant rules. Issuance of port clearance documents to crew of deep sea going vessels will be stopped by May 28 to begin the ban implementation, they said.
