Appointments in SECP: MoF asked to submit report

Hearing a case regarding illegal appointments and transfers effected by previous regime in the last month of its tenure, a two-member bench led by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja issued directives to finance ministry to submit a comprehensive report regarding several appointments in Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).
During proceedings, the bench also inquired about the procedure regarding the appointment of retired bureaucrats on a contract basis. Sajjad Butt, the counsel for finance ministry, told the bench that all the officials in SECP were appointed according to the rules and regulations and their appointment letters were also issued before March 1. He requested the bench to give him time to file a comprehensive reply in this regard. The court also directed a retired bureaucrat, Ijaz Zagham, to file a reply regarding his reappointment by Establishment Division. The hearing of case was adjourned till June 17.
