After taking oath as member of the Punjab Assembly, Punjab Chief Minister-designate and PML-N Punjab President Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has expressed his firm resolve to address public problems devoting energies and resources for well-being of people. "The PML-N would come up to expectations of people, as they had given us the mandate and we will not disappoint them," he told reporters on Saturday.
Shahbaz said under the oath they took, they were bound to serve people selflessly. "We would take every possible step to resolve national issues," he added. He said he would try to serve people in true sense. He said upholding oath was the constitutional, legal and religious obligation of Assembly Members. He said that no government alone could overcome the problems being faced by Pakistan. "Therefore, we will have to make joint efforts and rising above the political and personal interests," he added.
He said PML-N would start its development journey in Punjab from where its previous government had left. "However, overcoming loadshedding will be our top priority for which we will have to make sacrifices in other walks of life." Shahbaz Sharif said PML-N would substantially curtail non-developmental expenditure to provide resources for generating energy. He said culture of simplicity would be promoted in the province and Chief Minister as well as a common-man would have to follow it compulsorily.
He said the role of opposition would also be important in the assembly, adding that people were conscious and would judge the performance of both government and the opposition. Shahbaz said those assembly members who had not been in contact continuously with the people of their constituency would have to change their attitude. He said "we have decided to resolve all public problems including loadshedding on war-footing." He expressed the hope that assembly members of PML-N would play the vanguard role in that crusade.
Replying to a question, Shahbaz Sharif said that people of other provinces were appreciating all mega projects of Punjab including metro bus and wherever he went the people of those provinces expressed their desire for launching those projects for them. He said the next government of PML-N Punjab was ready to provide all possible co-operation to other provincial governments for those projects.
He said "we will feel pleasure if all provinces of the country initiate such development programmes for the facility and prosperity of the people and implement these projects on merit and with transparency." Moreover, Shahbaz Sharif has retained the seat of PP-159 leaving the seats of NA-129, PP-161 and PP-272, he emerged victorious in May 11, 2013 polls.
