Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) has demanded of the government to arrest the killers of Abid Ilyas, former UC Nazim of Liaquatabad Town, and give them exemplary punishment. This demand was made by Ameer JI Karachi Muhammad Hussain Mahenti while addressing a protest demonistration against the non-arrest of Ilyas's murderers outside Karachi Press Club (KPC) here on Sunday.
Mahenti said that the newly-elected federal and provincial governments should think seriously over the deteriorated law and order situation of the city and free the people from terrorists, target killers and extortionists.
He further demanded effective steps for elimination of criminal and terrorists' elements from the city. Mahenti said that the killers of Abid Ilyas were roaming freely while attempts were being made to include the terrorists in the federal and provincial governments.
"If the terrorists, target killers and extortionists will get the share in government, then the law and order will not restore in the city," Mahenti feared.
Mahenti regretted that the officials of Law Enforcing Agencies (LEAs) completely failed in ensuring safety of the live and property of the general public. Mahenti pointed out that the target killers had targeted JI leaders and workers including Dr Pervez Mehmood, Ayub Ali, Junaid Zahidi and others, but not even a single arrest was made in this regard.
JI Karachi Ameer vowed that the JI leadership and its workers would continue their struggle to eliminate target killings, extortionists and terrorists from the city.
Naib Ameer JI Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, acting Ameer District Central Muhammad Muslim, Naib Ameer Nazimabad Zone Wajih Hassan also spoke on the occasion.
