The Lahore High Court's (LHC) Complaint Cell has taken cognisance of about 119 cases of human rights violation in last 11 months on administrative side. This initiative of High Court has fetched fruitful response with the result of a fast- track disposal of 61 cases. Further indulgence on the part of Lahore High Court in these cases was not required because completion of challan and submission to the courts concerned stands accomplished legal proceedings whereof have also been launched to ensure dispensation of justice to the victims.
Remaining cases are being monitored vigorously. After going through the reports received by the Sessions Judges, Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial has asked them to issue strict directions to police for prompt submission of challan/police report u/s 173 Cr.P.C. They have further been directed to submit the latest reports in the matters to LHC Complaint Cell immediately. The cell had taken action against news reports of electronic and print media unfurling glaring human rights violations, particularly acid attack, gang rape, kidnapping for ransom, police torture and encounters etc, and had directed the concerned District and Sessions Judges to investigate the incidents.
