Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) has assured the newly elected government of its support on issues of common man interests, national security and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's strategy against continuing drone attacks in the country. Speaking in the National Assembly after prime minister's election, PTI President Makhdoom Javed Hashmi said that his party would not act as friendly-opposition and criticise the government's decisions on merit.
The party, as explicitly indicated by the visionary chairman of PTI, would support the strategy devised by the government against continuing drone attacks in the country, Hashmi added. Hashmi, who was PTI candidate for the Prime Minister's slot, felicitated the newly-elected Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and termed the day as historic for completing the process of peaceful democratic transition of power.
"We will fully support every step of the government taken for betterment of the people and resolve the problems being faced by them but would resist every wrong step of the government," he added. Hashmi also advised the newly-elected prime minister and his government to take along the smaller provinces even though his party secured majority in Punjab. The gesture of taking along the smaller provinces would remove the sense of deprivation among them and strengthen the country. The PTI President said that his party had accepted the outcome of election despite reservations because it wanted the process of democracy to continue.
Hashmi also demanded for holding of local bodies' elections for transfer of power to the local level. Javed Hashmi also stated that "Nawaz Sharif was my leader and still he is my leader." Chief of Awami Muslim League, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said that the country was facing serious economic problems and need immediate attention of the elected government. He said that around 2 million people were becoming unemployed every year and the problem of load shedding was fixable if the government takes sincere steps to tackle the problems of oil theft, distributions losses and billings. He said that all these issues need urgent attention of the government which should not waste time in taking ceremonial congratulations.
