The Institute of Business Management (IoBM) held a programme on environment and energy management to observe the World Environment Day. The theme of this year's environment day was 'Think, Eat and Save' which was an anti-food waste and food loss campaign. According to UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), every year 1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted.
In his message on World Environment Day, President IoBM Shahjehan Karim said: "All we need to do as a nation is to think of the poor and consciously grab only the portion of the consumable food which we can fully eat, leaving aside the rest consumable food hygienic for recycling among the needy and the inconsumable food for eco-friendly usage. Such conscientious food usage will largely be able to solve food problems of those sleeping with hungry stomach in Pakistan and in the world."
Besides, Rector IoBM Talib Karim, gave a detailed briefing about the importance of this occasion. The chief guest of the event was Sikander Sultan, CEO, Shan Foods (Pvt) Ltd. Different presentations were made at the programme including Food Waste, Utilisation and Environmental Impact by Professor Dr Akhlaq Ahmed, Advisor to the President on Environment and Energy; Sea Food: Utilisation and Spoilage by Dr Shahid Amjad, Professor Environment and Energy Management; Food-For-Thought On Food Waste by Dr Abdul Rauf Farooqi, Professor Environment and Energy Management; Foobesity - From Waistline to Wastage by Dr Asima Faisal, HoD Health Hospital Management and Save Food: Say No to Hunger by Engr Moinuddin Ali Khan, Sr Fellow, Supply Chain Management. Parvez Jamil, Public Affairs Manager and Faculty Advisor Media Management Program, disseminated his article on the promise and potential of solar energy titled: While the sun shines.-PR
