Rs 59.28 billion allocated to education

The government has earmarked Rs 59.28 billion for Education Affairs and Services in the federal budget for 2013-14 against the revised allocation of Rs 52.37 billion for the outgoing year. Education is a provincial subject under the eighteenth constitutional amendment and the federal government funds mainly the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
An amount of Rs 18.49 billion has been earmarked in Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for Higher Education Commission (HEC) in the budget for 2013-14. In 2012-13, an amount of Rs 15.8 billion was allocated for HEC, which was reduced to Rs 15.59 billion due to financial crunch. The major chunk of expenditure ie Rs 43.36 billion has been earmarked for tertiary education affairs and services against the revised allocation of Rs 39.3 billion in the current fiscal year. Out of a total Rs 59.28 billion, Rs 5,832 million has been earmarked for pre-primary education affairs services against the revised budget of Rs 4,764 million for 2012-13.
As many as Rs 7,434 million has been allocated for secondary education affairs and services against Rs 6,121 million revised allocation of 2012-13. For education services (not defined by level), Rs 103 million has been earmarked in the budget for 2013-14 against the revised budget of Rs 53 million in 2012-13.
A Rs 785 million has been earmarked for education affairs services against the revised allocation of Rs 1,054 million; Rs 1,505 million has been allocated for administration which was Rs 940 million in the revised budget of 2012-13 and Rs 254 million has been allocated for subsidiary services in 2013-14 against Rs 135 million of the revised estimates for 2012-13.
