River Swat was still in medium flood while the flash water had washed away a part of Ayub Bridge, which link Mingora city with Kanju resulting in the suspension of land route of 0.7 million residents of Tehsil Kabal and Matta with the district head quarters.
According to reports from Swat, seven empty mud-built houses in Utroar have been washed away in flood waves in the river. However, the administration succeeded in securing Mingora Bypass Road through diverting the direction of the flood water. According to sources in Irrigation Department River Swat was still flowing in medium flood while a portion of the link bridge between Mingora and Kanju has been damaged due to heavy water rendering it unusable for the vehicular traffic.
The bridge was washed away in the devastating flood of 2010 and Pakistan Army had restored the passage through installation of the temporary bridge. But, the nearby under construction bridge could not be completed even on the expiry of the scheduled time period.
The closure of the temporary bridge had closed land route communication of the residents of Tehsil Matta and Kabal with Mingora city and now they have to reach the city after travelling on the long routes of Bari Kot and Dheri Bagh. Deputy Commissioner, Swat, Syed Imtiaz Hussein Shah ruled out the early restoration of the Ayub Bridge. He said that a portion of the bridge has been affected and due to risk it has been closed for vehicular traffic.
