Windows users can use the software menu under Control Panel to uninstall programmes they no longer want. Unfortunately the procedure isn't particularly fast or thorough. After the de-installation, small remnants of the programme, or "artifacts," can remain, using up space and slowing down the computer.
A more thorough uninstall can be achieved with the freeware tool Absolute Uninstaller. According to the developer, the tool automatically detects unused files left behind after uninstalling and completely deletes them.
The freeware also offers a time-saving Batch Uninstall function which allows users to define a list of programmes to be automatically removed one after the other.
