In order to meet the threat of possible floods, the Punjab government has evolved a flood plan for the monsoon and instructions have been issued to the concerned departments and commissioners for the repair and strengthening of the banks of all rivers and canals in the province.
Punjab's Chief Secretary, Javed Aslam presided over a meeting in which flood monitoring committees were constituted at divisional and district levels, disclosed an official here on Tuesday. The meeting directed that stones and bags of sands should also be stored at the banks of rivers and canals for use in case of emergency during possible floods.
The meeting was informed that Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has made functional its boats, fibreglass boats, d-watering pumps, generators and other machinery while other departments have also been issued directions in this regard. Also, flood warning centre is working round the clock and the people will be provided immediate information through electronic and print media about low, medium and high floods. DG Rescue, Rizwan Mehmood informed the meeting about arrangements for providing relief to the flood affectees. Secretary Irrigation, Housing, DG PDMA, commissioners and representatives of Pak Army were present in the meeting.
