At least nine persons were killed in different incidents of violence in the city on Thursday, police and rescue sources said. A police constable named Aftab, 50, was killed while another was injured when they tried to intervene during a robbery attempt in the Gul Bai area in the limits of Site-B police station. The injured constable was identified as Mushtaq, 40. The casualties were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi.
A man named Phoolan Khan, 50, was gunned down in the Ghazi Town area in the limits of Malir City police station. The body was later shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Another police constable named Rashid, 40, was shot dead by unknown armed men near Khardar General Hospital in the limits of Baghdadi police station. The body was later shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi.
Kaleem, 35, was shot dead in Orangi Town near Islam Chowk in the limits of Iqbal Market police station. According to police officials, he was an MQM worker. The body was moved to Abbassi Shaheed Hospital. A man, who was later identified as Noor Hassan, 25, was found dead from an abandoned place in the Sohrab Goth area in the limits of Sohrab Goth police station. The body was moved to Abbassi Shaheed Hospital.
Another man was found dead near the Tessar Town Road in the limits of Surjani police station. The victim was identified as 28-year old Mairaj Mohammad Baloch. Two more men were found dead in the Dhobi Ghat area in the limits of Garden police station. The deceased were later identified as Abdul Waheed Memon, 55, and his son Bilal Memon, 18. Both men were said to have been killed after being kidnapped by unknown men. Another man was found dead near the Mauripur Road in the limits of Kalri police station. The man's identity could not be ascertained till the filing of this report.
