Chief Election Commissioner former Justice Fakhruddin G Ebrahim on Friday visited the office of the Provincial Election Commissioner, Punjab where he chaired a meeting. Addressing the meeting, the CEC appreciated the successful conduct of general elections 2013 in highly challenging situation. He said Election Commission had been successful in fulfilling its constitutional obligation and bringing out reasonable results despite all hurdles and difficulties.
He appraised the General Elections 2013 as more transparent than the past elections held in the country and had commented that ECP for the very first time had been successful in virtually providing a levelled playing field to all the candidates. He said election meant the display of power by the people and the people of Pakistan had effectively displayed their clout in those general elections. Provincial Election Commissioner, Punjab, Mehboob Anwer, Joint Provincial Election Commissioner, Khaleeq-ur-Rehman and other officers at the Provincial Headquarters Punjab.
Later, the Chief Election Commissioner also visited the Election Tribunal, established in Lahore, headed by the former District and Session Judge Saif-ur-Rehman for the hearing of election petitions. The Provincial Election Commissioner Punjab thanked the Chief Election Commissioner for acknowledgement of their efforts and visiting Punjab right after the General Elections 2013. He also presented a brief report on conduct of General Elections 2013 in Punjab.
