Imran to lead Pakistan in World Hockey League

Full-back Muhammad Imran has been retained to lead an 18-member Pakistan squad in World Hockey League Tournament being held in Johar Bahru (Malaysia) from June 28 to July 7. Team was named here on Saturday by Manager-cum-chief coach Akhtar Rasool at the conclusion of short training camp at Hockey Club of Pakistan. Coach Hanif Khan was also present on the occasion. Out of top teams top three will qualify for the Hockey World Cup being staged in Netherlands next year.
Akhtar Rasool said veteran half back Waseem Ahmed not considered because of his shoulder injury while Fareed Ahmed was included in the team after recovering from groin injury. Pakistan team will leave for Johar Bahru on its way to Kulala Lumpur on Sunday to take part in the event. Pakistan squad: Goal-keepers: Imran Shah, Imran Butt Full backs: Muhammad Rashid, Muhammad Imran, Muhammad Ateeq. Half backs: Fareed Ahmed, Muhammad Rashid, Aamir Shahzad, Khalid Bhatti. Forwards: Shakeel Abbasi, Muhammad Zubair, Abdul Haseem Khan, Muhammad Rizwan, Haider Abbas, Waqas Sharif, Shafaqat Rasool, Umar Bhutta. Officials: Ajmal Khan (Assistant coach), Arshad Hussain (goal-keeping coach) Adnan Zakir (trainer).
