British High Commissioner Adam Thomson said on Tuesday that Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain was not discussed during the recent meeting of Prime Minister David Cameron with his counterpart Nawaz Sharif. Talking to reporters here, the British HC said that the MQM chief's remarks and London Metropolitan Police investigation was not discussed during the meeting.
He said that the investigation into Dr Imran Farooq's murder was a matter to be handled by the London Metropolitan Police, which he added was an independent entity. He further said that the British premier in his meeting with Nawaz emphasised greater co-ordination between Pakistan and Afghanistan. "Cameron urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Afghan President Hamid Karzai to increase contacts with each other," he added.
Quoting the British premier, Thomson said Afghanistan needed strong and prosperous Pakistan. The purpose of Cameron visit was an expression of confidence in the country's future in the wake of successful democratic transition of power, he added. He was of the view that terrorism was a common challenge and both the UK and Pakistan needed to cooperate with each other to deal with the menace.
