New Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Tariq Bajwa has assumed his charge. The FBR in this regard has issued a notification here on Tuesday. According to the notification, in pursuance of Establishment Division's Notification No 31/02/2013-E-I dated 30-06-2013, Tariq Bajwa, a BS-21 officer of Pakistan Administrative Service has assumed charge of the post of Chairman FBR w.e.f. July 2.
Sources said Tariq Bajwa had decided to address the tax officials and staff of the Board here at the FBR House on Wednesday (July 3) and take tax machinery into confidence for taking necessary policy measures to achieve the assigned revenue targets. The reform strategy, policy measures and reforms in the tax administration is expected to be highlighted in the address of the new FBR Chairman. It is also expected that the new FBR Chairman would also talk about co-ordinated efforts of Inland Revenue Service and Pakistan Customs Service for meeting the revenue collection targets.
Tax authorities may share policy guidelines and national strategy required for achieving ambitious revenue collection target of Rs 2,475 billion during 2013-14. The new FBR Chairman has assumed charge at a crucial time when the Board has suffered massive shortfall as provisional revenue collection in 2012-13 stood at Rs 1,929 billion against budgetary target of Rs 2,381 billion.
