SCCI hails special tax on Afghan transit trade

Chairman, Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry Standing committee on Railways dry-port, Ziaul Haq Sarhadi welcomed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government step for imposition of special 1 per cent tax on the goods transiting via Torkhum to Afghanistan, under the Pak-Afghan Transit Trade agreement, termed it was good step.
Sarhadi said that the KP Minister for Finance, Sirajul Haq had assured that the government would take all stakeholders before taking imposition of the taxes on the Afghan transit goods, and a policy would be formulated in this regard.
He informed that there was not collected any tax for transiting logistic consignments via Torkhum to Afghanistan under the ATT agreement. He informed that hundreds of trucks were transported weighting 25 to 50 tons loaded with various items and commodities. He said that the road infrastructure was badly damaged due to transporting goods on local routes.
Therefore, he hailed that the imposition of tax would not only generate revenue in the provincial exchequer, but also helpful to reconstruct damaged roads from these taxes.
