Three more peacocks die in Tharparkar

At least three more peacocks died due to Newcastle disease locally known as "Ranikhet" and more than 40 others affected here on Wednesday. According to details, the contagious disease had so far killed 77 precious peacocks in different areas of Tharparkar. Local sources said that more than 40 peacocks are infected with the disease and it is feared that the toll may rise further.
It should be mentioned that 18 peacocks have been killed of Ranikhet during last one week. The disease-inflicted birds used to stop drinking water a few weeks ago. The Wildlife Department confirmed the death of peacocks. The local population expresses grave concerns over the negligence of the responsible departments in taking steps to control the disease.
