Leader of opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah demanded of the government to constitute a Parliamentary Committee to monitor the utilisation of loan being taken from International Monetary Fund. He said the committee should also examine the amount of loan taken by previous governments from IMF and investigate that where they spent the loan amount.
The opposition leader also demanded of PML-N government to take approval of the IMF loan from the parliament. Khurshid made these demands while talking to media on Friday. He asked the government to make everything crystal clear about the recent IMF loan. He said Pakistan People's Party (PPP) government had taken loan from IMF during mid period of its tenure while the PML-N government is taking loan at an initial stage. He said Ishaq Dar in 2008 being finance minister in the PPP coalition government had said that the national exchequer is empty.
To a question, Khurshid Shah said PML-N has opposed its own stance by taking the loan from IMF as the party was against taking loan from international institutions. He said, "Ishaq Dar should tell the nation why the government took loan just after coming into power."
