There have been rumors going around regarding Apple releasing new variant of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus in red color, similar to that seen in previous iPhone 7. Apple made those rumors come true by announcing the two new phones yesterday.
On Monday, Apple announced a new metallic red color for its iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, an addition to the phone’s already existing colors of gray, gold and silver. The new phones called iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition, which start at $699 for 64GB iPhone 8, are all set to debut in stores on April 13 and will be available for pre-orders from today.
Also, new red leather cover for iPhone X called (PRODUCT) RED iPhone X Leather Folio is also announced by the company that will be available from today, costing $99. What sets the phones apart from the last year’s red iPhone 7 is its black front plate, which was white in case of iPhone 7.

Moreover, as a part of Product Red, which Apple has partnered with since 2006, a portion of proceeds for all the (PRODUCT) RED purchases will go to the Global Fund HIV/AIDS as Apple’s plans to fight them. Apple also said that since 2006, the company has donated over $160 million to the Global Fund, marking itself as the firm’s largest corporate donor.
“This special edition (PRODUCT) RED iPhone features a stunning red and black color combination and also offers customers the opportunity to make an impact in fighting the spread of HIV and AIDS. We are proud to support (RED) with this bold new iPhone and hope customers think it is as special as we do,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of Product Marketing.
