Morsi's government toppled to protect Israel: JI chief

22 Jul, 2013

Ameer, Jamaat-i-Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawwar Hasan, has said that the military coup in Egypt against an elected government had been planned in Washington to protect Israel from a possible threat. He was addressing the participants of a huge sit-in organised by the JI at the Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam, on Sunday to protest against the ouster of elected President Dr Muhammad Morsi. The protesters carried placards and posters condemning the military coup in Egypt and demanding the restoration of the elected government of Dr Morsi.
Syed Munawwar Hasan said that the double standard of the west and its enmity towards Islam had jeopardised the world peace. The US agenda since long had been to obstruct the democratic process in Muslim states and support dictatorship there, to create anarchy in the Muslim world, to divide the Muslims and harm their solidarity.
He said that millions of the Egyptian people were on roads against the ouster of their elected government but the world conscience was asleep. The most shameful attitude at the ouster of an elected government among the Muslims states was from Pakistan and some other states that were constantly silent on the issue and were not ready to utter a protest against this oppression. While some had even lent support to the unlawful change in the Muslim country.
He said that the Egyptian people demonstrating in support of Dr Morsi's were being subjected to the worst form of torture and hundreds of them had been shot dead due to direct firing by the troops and shelling from the helicopters. However, the number of the protesters was increasing with every passing day despite the state oppression. He said that Washington wanted to push Egypt into a civil war like Syria to put an end to any threat to Israel's existence for ever.
He said that in Bangladesh, a so-called war crimes tribunal set up by Hasina Wajid had announced death sentence to JI Secretary General, JI, Bangladesh but the world was silent over that.
He said that the people in the Muslim countries were true followers of Islam and their majority was always ready to make every sacrifice for Islam. That was why liberalism and secularism could not get roots in the Muslim states despite the best efforts of the west and their pro-west rulers.
The US, he said, loved a democratic system for itself but if any Islamic movement came to power in any Muslim country through a democratic process, Washington toppled it through a coup and lent support to the military dictator. He said that a similar game was played in Algeria years ago, while US conspiracies in this respect were also continuing in Sudan, Turkey, and some other Islamic countries.
He said since the ouster of Dr Morsi, millions of the Egyptian people were on roads in protest and were determined not to return home until the elected government was restored. He said, an elected government was toppled in Egypt only at the protest of a handful of secularists and the lovers of western culture. The Egyptian masses were protesting against the military coup but the world at large was a silent demonstrator.
