Citrus fruit plants require water in abundance because the plants are growing. Agriculture experts told APP on Sunday that fruit growers should timely use the third instalment of nitrogen fertiliser to the plants to avoid any attack of insects and diseases. Reasonable shower in monsoon is beneficial for the citrus plants because they absorb nitrogen from rainwater which helps in their growth.
Experts said rainwater is more beneficial than tube well water. They advised growers to make sure that water should not stand around the root of plants as it could block the passage of air and harm the plants.
Experts said if citrus canker is witnessed, growers should use pesticides recommended by the agriculture department.
