Punjab Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has said that those who dedicate their lives and resources for social welfare are the assets of society and government would provide all out support and assistance to such people as well as the NGOs. He said that the provincial government was also providing maximum funds for the treatment and rehabilitation of mentally handicapped persons so that they could become self-reliant and active members of society.
He said that all out co-operation would be extended to the institutions of mental diseases treatment for creating awareness among the public regarding mental diseases. He was speaking at a function with special people here at Fountain House on Sunday.
Rehman emphasised the need for public awareness campaign regarding psychological/mental diseases. The minister said that by increasing the health budget up to 102 billion rupees, the government had ensured provision of modern health facilities and free medicines as well as air-conditioning in general wards of government hospitals. He said that under the directions of the CM Punjab the public sector hospitals were being developed on modern lines.
