Torrential rains that are occurring across the country also have badly damaged the historical ruins of Mohenjodaro. The Department of Archaeology has declared an emergency within the department and closed the Mohenjodaro site to the public and media representatives, state television reported. According to sources, rain water entered the site's area due to the heavy rain fall and flood like situation and two walls of the premises collapsed.
Water seepage in the ruins is harmful for the site as it is already in a deteriorating state. The Archaeology Department has started work on the site and is using electric pumps to extract flood water.
