The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) said on Monday that the feeders that had tripped during Saturday's heavy downpour in the city have been restored. In a statement KESC also appealed to the sewerage authorities to clear the standing rainwater pools from various city areas as soon as possible because its maintenance teams had been facing difficulty in repair of power supply faults at such places.
It said that due to the flooded roads, repair work on cables, especially underground cables was not at all possible as that is a dangerous task. KESC further said that at certain 'kunda-infested' places the wires used for illegal connections had broken by thunderstorm which had fallen down into the standing rainwater pools. Therefore, the power utility had purposely shut down power supply temporarily to such areas so as to protect the general public against risk of electrocution. In view of that, the consumers needed to remove illegal connections to get their power supply restored instead of resorting to violent agitation and attacking the utility offices, the KESC statement added.
