Nawaz hints at slashing electricity prices

Terming energy crisis as one of the major challenges of the country, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said prices of electricity would be reduced after production from new power projects. While addressing the PML-N legislators‚ activists and people hailing from different walks of life after offering Eid prayer in Raiwind on Wednesday, the premier said the country was facing a number of serious challenges when the PML-N took the charge of the government, but we are determined to make a bright future of Pakistan through hard work and commitment in order to come up to the expectations of the people.
He urged the nation to strengthen the government's hands in its efforts to bring peace, stability and prosperity in the country. Former Justice Rafiq Tarar (ex-president), former DG ISI Lieutenant General Javed Nasir (Retd), PML-N leader Hamza Shahbaz and Advisor to Chief Minister Rana Maqbool Ahmad were also present on the occasion. Talking about the problem of terrorism, Nawaz said the government was pursuing a national agenda to eliminate terrorism and restore peace in the country. He said, "We have a national agenda to eliminate terrorism from every area and restore peace to bring stability and prosperity in the country."
Nawaz said the government took all the political parties onboard for preparing common agenda to eradicate terrorism from the country. He said the government had initiated the process of talks to restore peace in country and expressed the hope that the efforts of dialogues would be successful. He expressed his firm resolve to overcome the challenges of terrorism‚ extremism and energy crisis with the support of people.
Referring to Karachi operation‚ he said that eradication of terrorism and other crimes were necessary to restore peace in Karachi and other parts of the country. He appreciated the performance of law enforcement agencies in Karachi which resulted in decline in crimes like kidnapping for ransom, target killing and extortion to some extent.
He further said the government is going to take bold decisions for the sake of restoring peace and maintaining law and order in Karachi and everywhere in the country. Referring to the recent increase of electricity prices, he said prices of electricity would be reduced after start of electricity production from new power projects. He added that the government had launched operation against power theft to overcome the shortage of electricity. Nawaz said that the government inherited a number of challenges from previous government but with sincere intention we are making efforts to bring the country out of crises like menace of terrorism, lawlessness, energy crises and poor economy.
