Pakistani showbiz was left in shock after singer/actress Meesha Shafi publicly accused fellow singer and actor Ali Zafar of sexual harassment through mini-blogging site, twitter. However, Ali has retaliated by reportedly sending a Rs 100 million legal notice to her.
Reports have been making around on social media that renowned singer/actor Ali sent a legal notice to Meesha, who has made sexual harassment allegations against the star. According to local media reports, the legal notice has demanded Meesha to delete the tweet that accuses him of harassment and issue an apology for defaming Ali or pay the 'damages to the tune of at least Rs100 million' under Defamation Ordinance.
Meesha had used twitter as a platform for sharing her own sexual harassment experience in the wake of #MeToo campaign that is currently trending all around the world. The ‘Jugni’ singer had made claims that Ali had sexually harassed her not once but on multiple occasions.
Sharing this because I believe that by speaking out about my own experience of sexual harassment, I will break the culture of silence that permeates through our society. It is not easy to speak out.. but it is harder to stay silent. My conscience will not allow it anymore #MeToo pic.twitter.com/iwex7e1NLZ
