PIAF urges Supreme Court to revamp Nepra

24 Oct, 2013

Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF) has appealed to the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) to revamp National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra), which, according to it, has failed to protect consumers' rights. PIAF Chairman Malik Tahir Javed in a statement on Wednesday said that Nepra should be reconstituted by incorporating true representatives of all stakeholders.
He strongly opposed recent increases in electricity tariff made by Nepra. He said that repeated increases in electricity tariff would increase pilferage. Malik Tahir said the country had already lost a number of markets such as China, Bangladesh and India due to high cost of doing business. He urged the SC to revamp Nepra immediately and direct the concerned authorities to ensure representation of private sector on its board.
