24 Oct, 2013

Jamaat-i-Islami Secretary General and Chairman, Human Rights Network, Liaqat Baloch has said the Amnesty International report on drone attacks had shown the real face of the US, the so-called champion of human rights In a statement on Wednesday, he stressed upon the government to play a courageous and active role in seeking an end to the drone attacks by building world opinion in the light of the Amnesty report.
The JI Secretary General said the drone attacks were an attack on the country's sovereignty and a blatant violation of the international law. He said the Amnesty report had revealed the facts and vindicated the JI stance that the US was openly violating the international law and killing innocent human beings through drone attacks.
He said the drone attacks fell in the category of war crimes but unfortunately, the whole world was silent, thus giving a tacit support to the killing of innocent people. He said the drone attacks had given rise to extremism and strong reaction in the region. Liaqat Baloch said that under the pressure of the world, the US administration had been promising transparency in drone attacks but it had never honoured its word.
He said those affected by the drone attacks were not getting any compensation. He said the US was responsible for the unlawful killings in Pakistan through drones which was a violation of the international law. Similarly, he said, the Pakistan government equally shared this blame for these killing as partner in the so-called war on terror.
