The often-downloaded VLC Media Player has a security vulnerability. Affected are all versions of the free program up to and including 2.0.8, according to the German Federal Office for Information Security BSI. Users can find out which version of the program is installed on their computer by clicking on Help in the menu and going to About.
Hackers use the weak spot to execute commands, which may crash your computer. VLC maker Videolan offers an update for the 2.1.0 version that resolves the issue. It can be downloaded from the company's website.
