Electoral lists preparation: ECP hands over responsibility to provinces

28 Oct, 2013

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Sunday handed over the responsibility of electoral lists' preparation to the provincial governments. According to reports, the ECP took the non-traditional step of handing over responsibility for preparing electoral lists to the governments of the four provinces for local bodies elections.
All four provincial governments will complete the electoral lists' work under its management while ECP called the provincial chief secretaries in Islamabad tomorrow (October 29).
ECP is of the view that approximately 60 to 90 days are required to finalise the updating of electoral lists which it cannot meet in the short time. It may be recalled that the Punjab and the Balochistan governments had suggested December 7 for local government elections while Sindh government announced November 27 for the same purpose.
