The Karachi Port handled 134,644 tonnes of cargo comprising 98,383 tonnes of import cargo and 36,261 tonnes of export cargo including 4,738 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 98,383 tonnes comprised 33,144 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,304 tonnes of general cargo; 43,235 tonnes of bulk cargo: 19,000 tonnes of coal; 12,528 tonnes of DAP; 7,950 tonnes of rock phosphate; 3,757 tonnes of seeds and 20,700 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 36,261 tonnes comprised 32,429 tonnes of containerised cargo; 401 tonnes of general cargo and 3,431 tonnes of talcum powder. As many as 4,738 containers comprising 1,935 containers import and 2,803 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday. The break-up of imported containers shows 1,012 of 20's and 461 of 40's loaded while 1 of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 804 of 20's and 613 of 40's loaded containers while 209 of 20's and 282 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There are three ships namely Santa Rosa, MOL Direction and Hanjin Indigo with three container ships respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There are three vessels viz Hammonia Gallicum, Kota Kaya and Hyundai General carrying three container ships respectively currently at the berths.
There are six ships namely Hammonia Gallicum, Kota Kaya, Hyundai General, Du Juan Song, Nadeem and Friendly Seas carrying three container ships, one general cargo ship, one cement carrier and one talcum powder ship respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while five ships namely Jahan Sisters, Elini-T, New Life, Ikan Salmon and Al-Salam-II with three DAP carriers, one coal carrier and one oil tanker respectively are expected to sail on Thursday.
There are four vessels viz UASC Ramadi, MSC Didem, Beech-4 and Union Hellen with two container ships, one crude oil tanker and one general cargo ship respectively due to arrive on Wednesday, while five vessels viz APL Sokhna, MOL Solution, Cosco Kawasaki, Bunga Lucerne and Kronos Island carrying three container ships, one chemical carrier and one DAP carrier respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.
