Customs department on the directives of Supreme Court (SC) constituted six teams to ascertain the sale of the arms and ammunition within or outside Karachi; it was learnt here on Monday. According to sources, SC in its order dated November 1, 2013 in sou-moto case no SMC16/2011 directed the Customs department to ascertain the sale of arms and ammunition within or outside Karachi.
Following the said directives, the Customs department has constituted six teams and directed them to complete this exercise expeditiously and meaningfully. Sources said that information was already available in the Customs computerised record, showing imports of arms and ammunition by the importers and dealers and segregation of cases of import relating to Karachi city during last three years.
Moreover, sources said that teams would visit the business premises of the dealers/ importers of arms and ammunition to inspect their records to ascertain the sale of the same within or outside Karachi. Replying to a question, the sources said that customs department after completion of this exercise would send the report to the Inspector General of Police, Sindh and Director General, Rangers for further action.
